My Name Is Jordi Nackan
I am a photographer and woodturner from Toronto
My love for woodwork is new and untrained. It started in high school, when I spent my lunch periods alone in the woodshop teaching myself how to woodturn. I made my first mistake-ridden bowls between classes and then, with bandaged fingers, I learned to make things I could be proud of. The bell would sound and I would reluctantly return to class with sawdust and excitement clinging to my skin.
My love for photography is different: I followed it through to Ryerson University, where I earned my BFA. This love is older and I don't remember a time without it. It may have started at the age of six, walking through the woods with my parents where I would close my eyes and take pictures above my head. I feel it every time I turn on my light table and look at my Grandfather’s slides, where he teaches me again and again why it's so important to take notice of beautiful moments.
This website is a place for me to share the excitement. If I can get a print on your wall, a bowl on your shelf, or picture on your screen for a few moments, I hope to be able to connect with you over the things that have brought me so much joy.
